Imagine IF:
Performance & Play, your child will work with experienced Theatre artists and educators to create their own original performance!

The objectives of this class are to:

– Help participants build confidence through socializing with peers, performance activities, and drama games;

– Facilitate the development of collaboration skills amongst participants;

– Offer participants the opportunity to exercise their creative voice by allowing them to contribute in a hands-on way in every step of performance development and execution;

– Provide a safe space for children to explore the arts in a fun and playful environment.

Children do not need to have any previous theatre experience to participate in this class. Each child will be invited to participate as much as they feel comfortable – our focus is on having fun while developing imagination and creativity. Imagine IF is a place where everyone is welcome and anything is possible!

A message from our facilitators:  We value the creative contributions of our participants and want our performances to reflect their specific interests and imaginative pursuits. We intend to collaboratively develop performance content within our classes. Throughout the weeks we will work with participants to develop a theme, write a script, explore character development, create sets and costumes, and direct the action of their performances. We respect the age differences and developmental abilities of the two different classes, and will gear the programming, activities and participation expectations to ensure the enjoyment and success of all participants.

Kelsey has loved the arts for her whole life. After studying theatre in university, she has participated in productions as both an actor, writer, director, and producer alongside her amazing coworker Jenna. She believes strongly in the importance of arts-based programming for children, and the ability for creative team-building activities to positively impact children’s lives. As a young person, she enjoyed every minute of her after school theatre programs, and is so excited to be able to bring the same opportunity for creative exploration to young people today.

Jenna discovered theatre when she was cast in a grade 8 production of “The Friendly Giant” and has never looked back. She participated in the Sears Festival and the Canadian Improv Games while in high school, and went on to do her degrees both in theatre and education (primary/junior). She spent 7 years teaching drama classes to children before finding full-time employment in social services! She continues to write, direct, act and produce theatre through her own company with co-worker and friends Kelsey and Kano, but is looking forward to joining In Forma Theatre to return to her ultimate passion of teaching and empowering children through theatre and collective creation.
